Web Reference: Floyd Ernest Norman (born June 22, 1935) [1] is an American animator, writer, artist and cartoonist. Over the course of his career, he has worked for various animation companies, among them Walt Disney Animation Studios, Hanna-Barbera Productions, Ruby-Spears, Film Roman and Pixar. Floyd Norman is a writer and animator who worked on Disney classics such as Mulan, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Dinosaur. He was also the first African American animator at Disney and wrote a book about his experience. Jan 14, 2025 · Floyd Norman was the first Black animator hired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios, a legacy that will remain cemented in time. He was featured in a documentary, “Floyd Norman: An Animated Life” in 2016.
