Web Reference: Robert Shaw[1] (31 December 1931 – 11 February 1996) was a science fiction writer and fan from Northern Ireland, noted for his originality and wit. He won the Hugo Award for Best Fan Writer in 1979 and 1980. Working name of Northern Irish author Robert Shaw (1931-1996), in Canada 1956-1958 and the mainland UK from 1973. He worked in structural engineering until the age of twenty-seven, then aircraft design, then industrial public relations and journalism, becoming a full-time author in 1975. He won the Hugo Award for Best Fan Writer two times, in 1979 and again in 1980. Shaw’s story “Light of Other Days” was a Hugo Award nominee in the year 1967, and so was “The Ragged Astronauts” in the year 1987.
